Tackling the Chaotic Cupboard (and Some Teeth)

Hi everyone,

WOW I've had SUCH lovely comments from my last post, THANK YOU!! I havent yet replied to all but I will get there. :) It means so much to me to read your beautiful comments and to feel like I'm not the only one who has gone through a rough start as a first-time parent. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and your heart-felt words.

Wanted to do a quick post with some pics of the first stages of organising the cupboard in Alex's room.

Firstly I took (almost) everything out of the cupboard

and sorted them into piles of likeness. (You wouldn't guess by looking at this, but there are little piles of organisation here :))

I had some of these small storage boxes bought from Ikea. As I was assembling I forgot that you need to put the little metal label thing into the cardboard first before assembling the box. So a couple of goes later, I got them done.

I brought up a couple of these large clear storage containers with wheels, from downstairs. I'll use this one to store photos and frames not being used; and also my laminator and laminating sheets as I like to laminate photos sometimes.

That's as far as I got today, and then little Cutie Pie woke up :-)

He now has 7 TEETH!! At 7 months old. And the 8th is on its way. And yes, he HAS bitten me :-( But only twice, so far. Touch wood.

He's crawling like crazy, eating absolutely everything we put in front of him, pulling himself up and can stand holding onto furniture. I swear he'll be walking soon but it's too early!! Before I know it he'll be running which means so will we.

Bye for now, hope you have a good week :)

  2. gorgeous....he may not realise he has bitten, so dont get cross...but if he does, its a game because you shriek! So many mums give up breastfeeding when teeth appear but a grumpy look on your face when he does it again for fun (if thats what happens) will let him know that its not a good thing to do. and also removing the breast from him will let him know you mean business...I fed all three of my beautiful kids for ages with mouth fulls of teeth...babies dont drink with their teeth...lol....yay on the organisation and I hope you are feeling a little better each day...x

My fella has bitten me and oce split skin and drew blood!...But quickley popping him down and looking unimpressed stopped the behaviour til the 2 nd time he tried and I did yelp and cause him to cry:(...But no issues we are still feeding at 1 year old and will til he chooses otherwise:) Your lil man is charming!

  5. Gosh he's gorgeous.....would you look at those eye lashes!!!!

Crawling and standing up.....oh my he is an early developer...have you seen a Jolly Jumper we used them alot to keep them happy and bouncy and in one place once they were crawling. They clip easily in a door way and I used to move them room to room with me while I made beds and did laundry etc. I did prefer it to a walker as they develop better stability for walking where as a walker they tend to sit. Anyways google up the Jolly Jumper and see what you think. Ours lasted really well through 2 kids so if you find one second hand it will probably be still in good condition.

Love the white ikea boxes....do you suggest containers for holding most things on shelves and in cupboards? We have just moved and moved into a much much smaller place. Our garage is full to the brim with packed boxes and additional furniture. I am too scared to unpack too many boxes as I am liking the lean feel of the lack of stuff so far but it's the kids that seem to have the most stuff and wont part with anything? I'm loving space bags too and I've got all extra clothing and linen sucked down really well.

    1. Hi again Chrissy!
Yes we LOVE the j jumper, its saved my sanity more than a few times :) He's not as into it as he was though now that he can crawl but will still jump happily for 10 mins or so at a time.
Yes I definitely recommend containers for holding things! And a basic label on the front makes life easy. I'm sure you can fit more into a cupboard if evrything is stored in boxes, as you can stack the boxes. I love space bags too!! Yes wse are in the same boat as you, since we moved I havent unpacked everything. It just means going down to our storage room searching when I need something but thats ok. Honestly I dont have time to read books or do much anyway so I dont use alot of my things anyway! Yes dont kids seem to accumulate alot very quickly! We dont have alot for Alex as yet because I know in time his "stuff" may take over the house, so we are making a conscious effort to minimise toys etc at the moment. I do find he plays with something more if there are less toys out, for some reason. I found this to be true with older kids too, in my previous organising jobs. If theres heaps of toys about its like they dont know where to start so just go off and do something else like watch tv! But if there are 2 or 3 nice toys out they will play with them.
      Hugs :-)

  6. Looking good and it's soooo much easier to have boxes for items rather than having them sprawled all over shelves.
Are you giving Alex flouride drops, or don't they have them available anymore? My only child out of 3 that didn't receive drops from 6-12 months of age (one a day) now has a mouth full of fillings at 22yrs old :(. The ECC over 20yrs ago, told me she didn't believe in flouridated town water as it was only of use for very young babies to help develop strong teeth or for the very old to help maintain what they had as their systems slow down. The council was talking about putting chemicals in our water at the time :(.
Love the Lego table! My children had Duplo to play with when they were under 3 as it is much bigger and has slightly rounded corners. Much more difficult to pop one in the mouth, let alone stuff it up a nostril, and easier for little hands to pull apart.
    Cheers,
    Robyn

  7. Hahaha! Cutie Pie is having fun showing off his baby teeth! His cuteness definitely made my day. He's one active and healthy baby. He's so lucky to have you as his parents.
